Soaring 2023 Season Cut Short By Injury

Rafael Devers Will Not Play in the 2024 All-Star Game

Soaring 2023 Season Cut Short by Injury

Rafael Devers, the Boston Red Sox's standout third baseman, will miss the 2024 MLB All-Star Game due to a lumbar strain, the team announced Tuesday.

“It's a tough blow for us,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora. “He's been one of our most important producers at the plate, and his leadership will be missed.”

Health Concerns Overshadow Stellar Performance

Impressive Stats Despite Setback

Despite the injury, Devers has had a stellar 2023 season, slashing .222/.300/.429 with 30 home runs and 80 RBIs.

He ranks among the league leaders in several offensive categories, including on-base percentage (seventh) and slugging percentage (10th).

Second Consecutive All-Star Absence

This is the second consecutive year that Devers has been forced to miss the All-Star Game due to injury.

In 2022, he was sidelined with a hamstring strain.

Red Sox Representation in Texas

With Devers out, the Red Sox will have just two All-Stars in Texas next week: shortstop Xander Bogaerts and outfielder Alex Verdugo.

Impact of Absence

Devers' absence will be a significant loss for the American League team, as he is one of the most dangerous hitters in the league.

His leadership and experience will also be missed in the clubhouse.
